Meet The Staff: Julia Harman Cain

Julia Harman Cain - Director of DevelopmentName: Julia Harman Cain

Title: Director of Development

Hometown: born in Boston, grew up in Needham, MA

What do you do for JOMDC: I manage all fundraising operations — from writing grant applications to running our scholarship drive to making sure that we have a rocking Gala in the spring.

Best part about your job: I always enjoy finding new and creative ways to tell the story of JOMDC to our supporters and community. Doing so in the company of a great staff and faculty is extra fun!

What do you like to do when you’re not working: Running crazy distances. I tackled my third Marine Corps Marathon back in October. My fiancée and I have a hyper-enthusiastic dog named Inspector Javert and highly-opinionated cat named Pippin — so they keep us quite busy. I also have a weakness for reality TV and Criminal Minds.

Fun fact(s) about yourself: I got hooked on the performing arts early. Somewhere, there is an embarrassing ballet recital video from age 4. My first acting role was in first grade when I played a “superhero” who recycled to save the planet. My final role in college was Trinculo in The Tempest.

Favorite dance movies: Golden age movie musicals – Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Oklahoma, Carousel, etc. Also, um, I may have seen Flashdance the Musical on tour in Delaware.

Something you can’t live without: Family.

What interested you about working at JOMDC: I deeply believe in the importance of arts education, and now I get to be part of it every day! The depth and range of dance that JOMDC provides is pretty incredible.
