Get to Know Taurus

Taurus Broadhurst, a native of Richmond, VA, is an accomplished dancer, performer, educator and choreographer. He began his dance training with Ezibu Muntu African Dance Company and went on to attend Virginia Commonwealth University, pursuing a degree in Dance Choreography. He is a recipient of the Maryland Choreographer’s Showcase Audience Choice Award (2015).

Taurus Broadhurst is the founder/artistic director of Taurus Broadhurst Dance. This African contemporary company merges traditional West African dance along with House, Hip-Hop, and contemporary urban dance styles. The company has performed at the Jack Guidone Theatre (Washington DC), Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center (College Park, MD), The Atlas Performing Arts Center’s Intersections Festival (Washington DC), and Velocity Festival DC (Washington DC). Additionally, Broadhurst directed and produced The Fresh Series (2014); a grouping of shows comprised of emerging dance companies from across the east coast.

Broadhurst has worked with Rennie Harris Puremovement, Ronald K. Brown/Evidence, and Chuck Davis’ African American Dance Ensemble. Previous performance venues include DanceAfrica in Chicago; Jacob’s Pillow; Exit Festival in Paris, France, MTV’s Direct FX, and Jimmy’s Uptown Café SoulErotica. His teaching experience includes NYU’s Summer Intensive, the Bridge for Dance Studios in Manhattan, Harlem School of the Arts, and Morehead State University.
