Carol Foster, Chair of the FY 2021 Board of Directors for Joy of Motion, made the following statement welcoming back in-person curriculum:

“As the world and DC begin to reopen, I want to thank the DC dance community for standing up and fighting for justice over the past year. Because of your voice and calls for action, Joy of Motion Dance Center has listened and acted to once again make our space a place where dance is truly for everyone. We are committed to an inclusive, safe, and communicative environment where all voices are valued, and all dancers are respected.

“This summer, Joy of Motion Dance Center is ready to safely reopen and welcome ALL to our H Street studio. As we mark the 45th birthday of JOMDC this fall, we are ready to DANCE and ready to dance forward TOGETHER. We look forward to once again seeing and moving with our dance friends and families!”

Background

Since its founding in October of 1976, Joy of Motion has grown from a small Cleveland Park studio with just three instructors to the “the area’s most comprehensive dance institution” (Washington Post). While numbers have grown, our core philosophy has remained strong and constant. At Joy of Motion, dance is not the province of an elite or talented few. Dance belongs to us all, and we all belong in the studio and on the stage — growing and learning, moving and creating. The Joy of Motion studio is now located at the Atlas Theater in the heart of the H Street corridor in Northeast Washington, D.C.
