Student Stories: Summer Stock with Douglas Yeuell

By Christina Prete

Christina PreteDo you love musicals? Do you sing Broadway songs in your free time (or any time)? Do you wish you had auditioned for more shows in high school, college, or beyond? Do you love to move and wish you could channel Bob Fosse, Michael Bennett, or Jerome Robbins? I certainly do!

Before my first Summer Stock with Douglas Yeuell in 2008, I felt a big hole in my life that only musical theatre could fill. Without the time or courage to pursue a Broadway career at that point in my life, I originally started taking Doug’s legendary Friday morning Broadway jazz class to get my fill of the great white way. That lead to my first Summer Stock with Doug, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Doug will bring your Broadway dreams to life with his infectious enthusiasm and charm. No matter your dance background or level, Doug will guide you, in one week’s time, to be part of a fantastic musical theatre ensemble. Each day of Summer Stock is a gift. Spending nearly eight hours a day for a week in a dance studio stretching, isolating, jumping, turning, and kicking will invigorate your body. Learning Broadway-style choreography in just five days will fire up your mind. Being part of bringing a musical theatre classic to life will inspire your soul.

Summer Stock with Doug is so accessible. Every participant is a vital part of the process and is essential to helping Doug create his magic. Working with Doug will create incredible joy in your heart. You will be challenged, yet feel safe to try new things. You will become someone you’ve never been before and happily remember that transformation years from now. Summer Stock is an absolutely wonderful experience!
