Outreach: Second Annual Dance Party Gala Recap

It’s hard to believe how a little elbow grease and beautiful lighting transformed our Friendship Heights studios, usually filled with sweat-soaked dance students, into a sparkling charity gala, filled with bubbling, celebratory dance enthusiasts. With our community of hardworking volunteers and donors, raising an impressive $20,000 for Joy of Motion Dance Center’s Project Motion Community Outreach was a labor of love for all involved!

The evening was marked by celebration, camaraderie, and dance, as we welcomed Joy of Motion Dance Center supporters new and old. The dance floor was hopping with everyone from regulars in Helen Hayes’ jazz class to Jennifer Cover Payne, Executive Director of the Cultural Alliance of Greater Washington, and Dana Tai Soon Burgess, director of one of our resident arts partners Dana Tai Soon Burgess & Company. Many of our teachers attended, delighting their regular students. The food was glorious, with hummus shooters, cake pops, and other delectables. Delighting the crowd was a brief video showcasing Project Motion Community Outreach. Co-Chaired by ABC7/WJLA-TV News Anchor Leon Harris with his trademark charm, the gala was even featured on the station’s newscast!

Our inaugural gala last year was tribute to the great work the JOMDC community at large can achieve, and this year’s dance party and silent auction were even bigger and better. With more attendees and $7,770 raised through auction bidding—up from last year’s $4,000—the growth of the event mirrors the progression of our organization. We owe special thanks to our corporate sponsors, Accounting for Change, LLC, and Commonwealth Digital Office Solutions.

At the end of the night, the Second Annual Dance Party Gala was a complete success. We hope to see you there next year! Click here for more information on upcoming concerts and events.
