External Relations Associate

Responsibilities

  • Marketing & Communications (75%)
    • Manage all design and development of printed materials used to promote Joy of Motion’s studio programs
    • Implement an advertising strategy that incorporates print, broadcast, online and other forms of paid advertising.
    • Establish and manage a marketing internship program that provides support to the marketing department.
    • Execute a social media plan to communicate about Joy of Motion and to promote studio programs.
    • Promote Joy of Motion through multiple print and broadcast media and online outlets throughout Greater Washington.
    • Other duties as directed.
  • Development (25%)
    • Gift administration processing, including the maintenance of donor lists, preparing and sending renewal letters and thank you letters.
    • Ensure external listings are up-to-date and accurate (e.g. Guidestar)
    • Assemble grant packets.
    • Write renewal grant requests, as needed.
    • Conduct research, as directed by the Development Director.
    • Other duties as directed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five years’ experience in nonprofit arts marketing and/or communications.
  • Bachelors degree in marketing or communications.
  • Understanding of the role that marketing and communications play in the ultimate success of a nonprofit arts organization.
  • Prior experience working with Adobe InDesign, MindBody, PatronManager and Microsoft Office software is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of the dance industry and dance education in the United States, with a working knowledge of the National Dance Education Standards

Lighting Designer/Technical Director

Job Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Lighting Designer/Technical Director oversees and contributes to the successful completion of the technical and especially lighting elements for Joy of Motion programming.

Working closely with the Production Manager and House Manager, the Lighting Designer/Technical Director is responsible for executing all lighting for productions. This includes facilitating requests from Production Manager and choreographers, setting up the space (cabling, gelling, maintaining and setting up/striking lights, lighting board and any other equipment needed for the execution of a production) and management duties etc. as necessary. The LD/TD executes calling of the show and is responsible for operating the light board during productions, as well as maintaining equipment in good repair and keeping an eye on all technical aspects of Joy of Motion’s Jack Guidone Theater. The LD/TD upholds and implements Joy of Motion’s mentoring philosophy, mission value, and goals statements.

Qualifications:

-Individual must be punctual and manage time well.
– College student/graduate or equivalent
– Must be at least 19yrs of age
– Knowledge of theater operation and lighting equipment
– Must have some facility with QLab, or willingness to learn quickly
– Some dance knowledge
– Strong organizational and people skills
– Individual must have the ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs

Hours/Benefits:

– Part-Time Weekend Hours, required primarily Saturday and Sunday evenings.  Hours are typically Sat 4:30-10:30pm and Sunday 5-10pm.  Hours are also based on the production schedule. Some months there will be shows every weekend, other months there might only be 1-2 shows.
– Pay commensurate with experience as an hourly employee
– Individual will also receive free dance classes at all JOMDC locations

Studio Assistant Manager

JOB SUMMARY:

Provide support and assistance to the Studio Manager in customer relations, administrative duties, and general studio operations. This is a “manager-in-training” position, with training and supervision in all aspects of studio management. Individual will report to the Studio Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

-Serve as manager on duty when studio manager is not present.
-Assist manager with general maintenance and cleaning of all studios and office.
-Assist in marketing and promotion of all classes and programs.
-Perform general office duties.
-Assist in maintenance of studio database.
-Assist in studio and student correspondence, including phone, fax, mail, and email.
-Assist in processing all class registrations.
-Assist manager in all accounting and record keeping.
-Assist in management and training of workstudy staff.

Provide team support to Joy of Motion Dance Center staff in the organizing, planning, and executing of all studio functions, including, but not limited to, the Youth Spring Concert, concerts in The Jack Guidone Theater, Open Houses, and Fundraisers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Individual should possess strong interpersonal skills in a multi-task work environment, as well as proficient oral and written communication skills. Individual should have the ability to problem solve and take initiative. Position requires a working knowledge of Microsoft programs including Word and Google documents. Individual should have a desire to work for a nonprofit arts organization and enjoy a fun, stimulating environment. Individual must have a flexible schedule and be available to work days, evenings, and weekends as necessary. College degree or equivalent is preferred. Some dance experience and knowledge of different genres of dance is required. Strong familiarity with Joy of Motion Dance Center is a huge plus.

Office Manager (Part-time)

Joy of Motion Dance Center seeks a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to serve as Office Manager (part-time). Reporting to the Finance Director, the Office Manager is responsible for management of its administrative office, as well as providing support to the Finance Director and Executive Director.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure well-functioning office space, including maintaining and ordering supplies and equipment, which includes providing coordination and assistance of said functions to dance studios;
  • Assist with bookkeeping and financial management, including A/P, income processing, account reconciliation, and recurring journal entries support year-end financial reporting and tax preparation;
  • Assist with employee hiring and new-hire orientation, facilitate bi-weekly payroll submissions, and oversee record filing and retention;
  • Management and upkeep of MindBody database in coordination with studio managers;
  • Maintain filing systems;
  • Board meeting preparation and correspondence with Board;
  • Provide administrative support to Finance Director & Executive Director, and;
  • Other duties and special projects as needed.

Qualifications include: Bachelor’s degree; some office management or administrative experience (bookeeping as well as non-profit or arts experience a plus); capacity to balance multiple projects and competing priorities; ability to work with extreme accuracy and efficiency; great communication skills and capability to work with a variety of constituents; strong computer skills (proficiency in MS Office and databases, experience in Quickbooks a plus);  and the ability to maintain a positive attitude and humor under pressure.

This position is part time at 20 hours a week. Exact timing and days are flexible. Start date is September 1, 2016.
