Happy holidays from Joy of Motion Dance Center! Members of our faculty and staff put together gift ideas for dancers to help with your holiday shopping. Have a suggestion of your own? Share it with a comment below.
For The Young Dancer
Quynn Johnson, Program Manager, Education and Outreach, recommends her book “Lucky’s Tap Dancing Feet.” Available at BarnesandNoble.com, “Lucky’s Tap Dancing Feet” is a great gift for young readers age 4 and up.
For The Thoughtful Dancer
Helen Hayes, Program Director of our Youth Dance Ensemble, suggests purchasing a dance journal. After each class, dancers can write down what they learned, corrections they received, and how they felt about the class in general. A dance journal is a wonderful way to track progress, keep an eye on injuries, and express joy about dancing.
For The Artsy Dancer
Maya Jackson, Studio Manager at our Bethesda location, recommends hand-painted pointe shoes from The Pointe Shoe Project. Available at Etsy.com, the shoes are painted by dancer/painters and profits benefit the Performing Arts Repertory Company (PARC).
For The Achy Dancer
Emily Rorty, Studio Manager at our Atlas location, says a foam roller would be an awesome gift. It is a great massage device for rolling out muscles after a long day of class or rehearsal. They now come in a variety of colors and sizes so you can buy one to match your dancer’s personality!
Doug Yeuell, Executive/Artistic Director, suggests a dynaband from your local fitness retailer. Flex and point, stretch and tone arms, legs and more – a great way to treat a dancer’s body.
Sylvana Christopher teaches an adult drop-in class called AfroBeat, as well as several youth dance classes at JOMDC. She recommends foot lotion, a foot massager, or spa gift certificates. All great gifts to get dancers back on their feet!
For All Dance Lovers
Mane’ Rebelo-Plaut, Floor Barre, Ballet, and Stretch teacher, recommends the DVD of “Joffrey: Mavericks of American Dance.” It’s a fascinating documentary that your dancing friends will love, whether they’re bunheads, jazz hands, or B-boys/girls!
Rachel Pearl, Director of Production, loves calendars featuring dance photography by Lois Greenfield. Be reminded every month why you love dance and share the art form with your family or co-workers by proudly displaying the calendar for all to see!
