Dear JOMDC Community,
It is with a mix of sadness and appreciation that the JOMDC Board of Directors announces Laura Sawyer’s impending departure as Executive Director of Joy of Motion Dance Center, effective January 8, 2016. In the past year, Laura has played a critical role in the development and success of the organization, and while we will miss her and her leadership, we wish her the best of luck in her new endeavor as the Executive Director of an international nonprofit devoted to academic communications and language research. Over the next two months Laura will continue to lead important ongoing projects such as the 40th Anniversary Gala Concert and the development of a Faculty Advisory Body. We have launched a search to find the new Executive Director. During this transition period, it is our priority to find the best individual to lead, while still maintaining a stable and effective organization. All open positions for the organization are found here.
Again, we thank Laura for the dedication, passion, enthusiasm, and motivation she has given Joy of Motion during her time here. She always gave our community a willing ear, listening to the needs and ideas of our student, parents, faculty and other stakeholders. We look forward to following the success of her career and are hopeful and excited for the next chapter of JOMDC as we continue to pursue excellence in dance education with the ideal that Dance is for Everyone. Please read Laura’s letter below.
If you have any questions or concerns during this transition process, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly at

Heidi Thibodeau
Chair, Board of Directors

Dear JOMDC Community,The decision to leave Joy of Motion has not been an easy one. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for JOMDC and a deep belief in the ideal that ‘Dance is for Everyone.’ I have truly enjoyed working with the Board, with all of our immensely talented faculty, with our community and with the staff, who are among the most dedicated, energetic, and creative in the business. I believe in this organization’s ability to change lives–I’ve seen it on the stage and behind the scenes so many times–and I will continue to support JOMDC from afar long after I am no longer the one at the helm.
I want to give my deepest gratitude to all who have been so supportive of the organization and of me personally during my time here: staff, board members, and, of course, our partners and faculty. Without you, the organization would not be as strong and vibrant as it is. I am so honored to have been the leader of this incredible organization and will watch with excitement and anticipation as it makes strides in continuing to provide top quality dance education to our community. With affection and gratitude,
Laura Sawyer, MA, CAE
Executive Director
