Afro Jazz Performance Class
with Tyrone Murray
Sunday, 2:30 - 4:30 p.m., Atlas Performing Arts Center
(6/19 – 8/21/05)
$180 for 10 weeks 
Level:  Intermediate Jazz or Afro Jazz and above

This class will incorporate the unique Afro jazz style of Joy of Motion’s very own Tyrone Murray.  Tyrone’s choreography is an exciting blend of traditional African movements incorporated with elements of classical jazz technique and phrases.  This class is an excellent opportunity to put the fun experienced in class on stage.  All students are required to attend class, be prompt and demonstrate a command of the choreography in order to perform. Students must purchase or create their own costuming according to teacher guidelines. All efforts will be made to keep costuming expenses affordable. This class will culminate in a showcase performance for friends, family and the community on Saturday, August 20, at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, August 21, at 7 p.m. at our Jack Guidone Theater, admission $10.00.

Broadway Jazz Performance Class
with Amy Carson
Tuesday, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m., Friendship Heights
(6/14 - 8/21/05)
$150 for 10 weeks 
Level:  Beginning II Jazz and above

Carol Channing, Marilyn Monroe and Nicole Kidman immortalized it on stage and in films -- join the ranks of these supreme showgirls and perform the ultimate female dance number, "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend." Participants will learn original choreography for this showbiz favorite, while working to improve their performance skills. Don't miss the fun and challenge of being a sensational showgirl! All students are required to attend class, be prompt and demonstrate a command of the choreography in order to perform. Students must purchase or create their own costuming according to teacher guidelines. All efforts will be made to keep costuming expenses affordable. This class will culminate in a showcase performance for friends, family and the community on Saturday, August 20, at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, August 21, at 7 p.m. at our Jack Guidone Theater, admission $10.00.

Flamenco/Spanish Dance Performance Class

Level:  Beginning II Flamenco/Spanish Dance and above

Bring finesse and style to your flamenco. This performance class is a great opportunity to strengthen performance skills and take your technique to a higher level. Aspects of stage presence and professionalism will be covered. All students are required to attend class, be prompt and demonstrate a command of the choreography in order to perform. Students must purchase or create their own costuming according to teacher guidelines. All efforts will be made to keep costuming expenses affordable. Spanish-Arabic Fusion Performance Class
with Laurel Victoria Gray
Saturday, 3:30 - 4:30 p.m., Friendship Heights
(6/18 - 8/21/05)
$150 for 10 weeks 
Level:  Beginning II Belly Dance and above

This new Spanish-Arabic fusion choreography uses music by a contemporary Arab singer; her composition includes flamenco-style guitar and reflects the recent trend in Arab music to add Spanish elements. The movement vocabulary blends Spanish and Arabic elements, a reminder of a legacy dating back to the 8th century Moorish invasion of Spain. Full skirts and fringed shawls will be used in the piece. All students are required to attend class, be prompt and demonstrate a command of the choreography in order to perform. Students must purchase or create their own costuming according to teacher guidelines. All efforts will be made to keep costuming expenses affordable. This class will culminate in a showcase performance for friends, family and the community on Saturday, August 20, at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, August 21, at 7 p.m. at our Jack Guidone Theater, admission $10.00.
