Performance Classes
Our performance classes are offered each semester in various different dance disciplines as an opportunity for the adult student to experience the process and thrill of performing.  Performance classes culminate in a showcase performance at the end of the semester.

Afro Jazz Performance Class
with
Tyrone Murray
Wednesday, 8:00 - 9:30 p.m., Atlas Performing Arts Center
March 30 - June 12, 2005
$192.00 for 11 weeks 
Level:  Beginning II Jazz or Afro Jazz and above

This class will incorporate the unique afro jazz style of Joy of Motion’s very own Tyrone Murray.  Tyrone’s choreography is an exciting blend of traditional African movements incorporated with elements of classical jazz technique and phrases.  This class is an excellent opportunity to put the fun experienced in class on stage.  All students are required to attend class, be prompt and demonstrate a command of the choreography in order to perform. Students must purchase or create their own costuming according to teacher guidelines. All efforts will be made to keep costuming expenses affordable. This class will culminate in a showcase performance for friends, family and the community on Saturday, June 11 at 8:00 p.m., Sunday, June 12 at 7:00 p.m. at our Jack Guidone Theater, admission $10.00.

Bollywood Performance Class
with Laurel Victoria Gray

Level:  Beginning I Middle Eastern Dance and above

This class will feature the popular Indian film dance style that draws on folk and traditional elements as well as MTV and Arabic dance. This new choreography promises high-spirited, hip-swinging fun for the whole village. All students are required to attend class, be prompt and demonstrate a command of the choreography in order to perform. Students must purchase or create their own costuming according to teacher guidelines. All efforts will be made to keep costuming expenses affordable. Broadway Jazz Performance Class

Level:  Beginning II Jazz and above

This performance class will bring you one step closer to the big time. Participants will learn a complete performance piece from a selected Broadway musical. Emphasis will be placed on creating a piece in the Bob Fosse style of choreography. Participants are encouraged to attend the Broadway Jazz class that meets prior to this performance class as a warm-up. All students are required to attend class, be prompt and demonstrate a command of the choreography in order to perform. Students must purchase or create their own costuming according to teacher guidelines. All efforts will be made to keep costuming expenses affordable. DancePLUS Dance Composition Class

Level: Low Intermediate Ballet, Jazz, Modern or Hip Hop

Choreography and composition is an intensive choreography workshop led by internationally renowned choreographer Vladimir Angelov. The workshop combines lectures, practical exercises, improvisational tasks and compositional “homework”. The aim of this workshop is to provide participants with the basics of the choreographic process and for each participant to then create a piece of choreography (solo or group) which is presented before a live audience. Enjoy the show! Dance Plus concert Saturday, June 4 at 8:00 p.m. at our Jack Guidone Theater. Admission $10.00.

Flamenco/Spanish Dance Performance Class

Explore the fundamentals of hip hop in a performance class that fuses hip hop basics with influences of jazz while combining acrobatics and a little booty shaking. Rhythm Tap Performance Class

Level:  Intermediate Rhythm Tap

From studio to the stage, apply your tapping skills to this level-specific performance class.  Tappers will have the opportunity to develop presentation skills in preparation for a performance.  Go through the process of preparing a level appropriate rhythm tap piece including learning the choreography, rehearsing the piece and polishing it for performance.  All students are required to attend class, be prompt and demonstrate a command of the choreography in order to perform.  Students must purchase or create their own costuming according to teacher guidelines. Veil Performance Class

Level: Previous work with veils

Soulful and seductive, veil dance has become a vital component in American Belly dance performances, even though it is not traditionally Arabic. Learn about the origins of this genre while exploring the alluring aspects of concealment and display. Laurel Victoria Gray's "Veil Control" technique helps students manipulate fabric to enticingly frame the body as well as create dramatic delayed lines. Turn technique will also be introduced to enable students to get the sufficient lift needed for flowing veil movements. Class will focus on a hauntingly beautiful musical piece entitled Ghir Enta. Students should bring a 3 yard veil, 45 inches wide, preferably chiffon or silk and without excessive ornamentation. All students are required to attend class, be prompt and demonstrate a command of the choreography in order to perform. Students must purchase or create their own costuming according to teacher guidelines. All efforts will be made to keep costuming expenses affordable.
