Tom Mayock

Tom Mayock has recently moved to Washington D.C to continue performing with El Teatro de Danza Contemporanea de El Salvador. Prior to this, he performed, taught and choreographed in San Francisco and Marin county. He has performed in an independent film, "Sand Dance" has danced with Ellen Bauer Dances' (a Jazz company), Printz Dance Project (modern and hip hop), Annie Rosenthal Parr (modern), Frank Boehm and Dancers (Jazz and Industrial's), Enrico Labayan and Project Lab (Modern), College of Marin (Guest Artist in many different performance roles), Marin Dance Theatre (Ballet), Marin Ballet (Ballet).  In Alaska, he danced with Ketchican Ballet Theatre, (Ballet), and in Nevada with Nevada Dance Theatre (Ballet), Last, while attending Cornish College of the Arts in Washington state he performed with Cornish Dance Theatre (Ballet, Modern, and Jazz).

His children's creative movement classes were created at The Jewish Community Center and The French Lycee which culminated in a television segment for "Evening Magazine" titled, "Mighty Mites," showcasing his work as a creative movement instructor for three to five year olds. His jazz and ballet classes for children were developed at Marin Ballet, Stage Dor, Marin Dance Theatre and Contessi Ballet. They are based in rhythm, form, directional change, and theatricality. Of special interest to Tom is his advanced movement idiom, Modern Jazz, which is influenced by many jazz and modern forms, contemporary and old: (Lyrical Jazz and Limon, Hip Hop and Fosse), all merging with the capacity to fall into the floor and roll into a sustained line. His Dance Fitness is way to teach dance to people with minimal or zero dance experience with the focus on enthusiasm, grooving, sweating, and making friends.  Dance Fitness is a cardiovascular workout, fitness through exposure to the dance arts, and a fusion of the approachable, artistic, and affordable.

His teachers have been many, and those that need to be noted are Frank Bays (formerly of Joffrey), Pat Hon (she was an enigma), Wade Madsen (Bill Evans), Lila York (Paul Taylor), Paul Sanasardo (former Artistic Director of Bathseva Dance Co. of Israel, among many credits), Margaret Swarthout (Artistic Director of Marin Dance Theatre).  The vastness of his love for this art is made larger by the sharing of it, regardless of age or experience.
