Tehreema Mitha

Tehreema Mitha grew up in Pakistan in a home full of music, dance, paintings, books and lively debate. Dancing under the tutelage of her mother, Indu Mitha, since the age of seven, she has trained in the Kalakeshetra style known for it’s athleticism and strong lines. She performed her first two-hour solo in the Bharatanatyam style in Lahore in 1986 despite the most severe period of cultural repression in the country, and has continued to dance and perform against all odds, while in Pakistan and since moving to the US.

She premiered her first Contemporary item in 1990 and has choreographed and performed over fifty dances, both solos and ensemble items, (some over twenty minutes each), in both the Classical and Contemporary style.

Tehreema Mitha is artistic Director of Tehreema Mitha Dance Company, a not-for-profit, based in Maryland.  She has performed solo in China, England, Germany, Norway, Guatemala, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and the United States. TMDC has performed at the Kennedy Center, The Smithsonian, Dance Place, Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, Dance Theatre Workshop, PPS122, Joyce SoHo, Saint John the Divine, The Orpheum in Phoenix Arizona, Scottsdale Performing Art Center in Phoenix, and The Jack Guidone Theater.
