
Jessica Hirst
Hip Hop
Jessica Hirst directed and taught in Jam Crew's Outreach Program and performed with Jam Crew for several years. She has also taught and performed with the CityDance Ensemble Early Arts program. As a co-founder and co-Artistic Director of CatScratch Theatre Ms. Hirts has created and performed site-specific pieces on the Metro, at the Millenium Art Center and Artomatic galleries, Meridian Hill/Malcolm X Park, and at a medieval chateau in southwestern France. CatScratch occasionally performs on stages such as the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage. She enjoys developing performance art projects using movement, text, video, and design, including “Nine Months, Nine Minutes,” which received support from the DC Commission on Arts and the Humanities and the National Endowment for the Arts. Ms. Hirst has studied hip-hop with Vanessa Williamson, Rennie Harris Puremovement in Philadelphia, and several teachers at the Edge Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles. When not dancing she is studying for her Master’s in Counseling at Johns Hopkins University.
