Jenny Mayo

Jenny Mayo, a graduate of Barnard College in Manhattan, has studied, taught, and 
performed in D.C., London, and New York City. With a degree in American Studies, 
she produced a senior thesis on the role of breakdancing in urban communities, and 
continues to be a scholar of dance and hip hop, penning reviews and articles for 
publications such as Dance Spirit and On Tap.  Throughout her study, Ms. Mayo has 
taken jazz, ballet, tap, and modern classes in addition to hip hop and African 
dance. While in New York, she appeared in several music videos as well as on MTV 
"Direct Effects". During this time, she work-studied at Steps on Broadway and Dance 
Space Center, where she was given her first teaching opportunities. Ms. Mayo 
credits her teaching style to L.A. choreographer/dancer Lilian Manansala, who took 
Ms. Mayo under her wing as her assistant. Since then, she has taught for Gold's 
Gym, Results The Gym, D.A.R.E.®, Sport & Health Club, Worldgate Studio Dance, 
Fairfax County Public Schools, and Joy of Motion Dance Center. Ms. Mayo has 
performed with Culture Shock DC, Jam Crew, Adrenaline Dance, and has choreographed 
for several area companies and projects.
