Francesca Jandasek


Francesca Jandasek, born in Africa and of Czech descent, teaches, choreographs, 
composes, and performs in the Washington DC area. She has studied dance at the 
Peabody Conservation, Goucher College, Dover Dance Conservatory in Delaware, and 
locally at Joy of Motion Dance Center, Dance Place, Maryland Youth Ballet and the 
Washington Ballet. 

Ms. Jandasek has worked with several companies in the DC area, including Propaganda 
Dance Theater and CityDance Ensemble. She has also been working independently with 
an Indonesian dance group at the Indonesian Embassy and on her own projects. She 
has had the opportunity to perform locally and beyond at venues such as the Kennedy 
Center, the Indonesian Embassy, the Lincoln Theater, the Marvin Center, and Dance 
Place in Washington DC, JCC in Rockville, Baltimore County Theater in Baltimore, 
MD, Painted Bride in Philadelphia, PA, Grace Street Theater in Richmond, VA, and at 
the Mussorgsky Theater in St. Petersburg, Russia. Ms. Jandasek also had the 
opportunity to work with Tanec Praha, which organizes the International Modern 
Dance Festival in Prague, Czech Republic. 

In 2002, she won an award for "Excellence in Sound Design / Original Composition" 
during the 2002 Metro DC Dance Awards, Washington's annual honors celebration for 
excellence in dance. Recently, she has received the Artist Fellowship for Dance 
from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, and also a choreographic 
fellowship from the Kennedy Center as part of the Millennium Stage Local Dance 
Commissioning Project 2006.

Ms. Jandasek is currently teaching Music, Dance and Kindergarten at the Sheridan 
school, Dance at Joy of Motion Dance Center, and is dancing with several local 
dance companies and choreographers including Sharna Fabiano, Artefacts Dance and 
BosmaDance.
