
Douglas Yeuell
Executive/Artistic Director
Mr. Yeuell is an accomplished dancer, dance educator and administrator, and has been an active part of the Washington D.C. dance community since 1982. Currently, he serves as the Executive/Artistic Director of Joy of Motion Dance Center, one of Washington D.C.’s leading dance education institutions.
In addition to his administrative work, Mr. Yeuell is also one of Washington, D.C.’s most highly acclaimed jazz dance instructors. Mr. Yeuell has studied with such jazz greats as Matt Mattox, Luigi, Billy Siegenfeld, Lynn Simonson and Joe Orlando. Teaching since 1982, Mr. Yeuell has brought his infectious style of jazz to 1000’s of students throughout the nation’s capital, region and the world. He has taught at numerous colleges and universities throughout the United States, has been a guest teacher for Dance Master’s of America and has taught internationally in Italy, Russia and Austria. As a dancer and artist, Mr. Yeuell has performed throughout the region as a soloist, choreographer and is also the director of his own jazz dance ensemble Jazzdanz/dc.
Whether through directing, teaching or performing, Mr. Yeuell believes and lives the mission of Joy of Motion that, “Dance is for everyone,” and continually works to make dance accessible to all, to celebrate dance, and to bring strengthen and awareness to an ever growing and evolving DC dance community.
Mr. Yeuell is currently an Advisory Committee member for Dance Metro DC is the Interim Chair of the Metro DC Dance Awards and is the Chair of Dance Bethesda an annual dance festival produced by the Bethesda Urban Partnership in Bethesda, Maryland.
