IRISH DANCE
This class will introduce the basic soft-shoe steps and techniques of Irish Dancing, including solo dancing, group figure dancing and original choreographies. This Introduction class will not focus on Irish hard-shoe dancing. Specific instruction will include introductory reel and jig steps, standard figure dances (Four-Hand Reel, Humors of Bandon, Six-Hand Reel, Trip to the Cottage) and original choreographies (Dancing in the Wind). Beginning Irish dancers, as well as current students who are interested in working on their technique, are invited to join the class!
SEAN NOS
Sean
nos (“old style”) Irish dancing is a battering dance style that often
includes inventive rhythms, keen musicality, improvisation, and a loose upper
body. Sean nos dancing, with other
folk-dance styles, is believed to be the foundation for modern day rhythm tap.
Class will focus on the learning the basic steps, and encourage the
development of personal style. Live
musicians will be provided, and all levels welcome.
No shoes or special uniform required.
