Studio Staff

JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking more than one candidate to fill a variety of roles. For the candidate with the right skill set and experience, there are management opportunities. All positions play an active role in our dynamic professional staff.  Studio personnel are public-facing roles in which you will be responsible for creating an excellent student experience for all who interact with Joy of Motion by providing superior customer service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Serve as exceptional customer service representative at the studio front desk.
  • Assist in marketing and promotion of all classes and programs.
  • Perform general office duties.
  • Assist in maintenance of studio database.
  • Assist in studio and student correspondence, including phone, fax, mail, and email.
  • Assist in processing all class registrations.
  • Assist manager in all accounting and record keeping.
  • Assist in management and training of volunteers.
  • Assist manager with general maintenance and cleaning of all studios and office.
  • Participate with Joy of Motion Dance Center team in the organizing, planning, and executing of all studio special events, including, but not limited to, the Youth Spring Festival, Open Houses, and Fundraisers.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will embody a team mentality with strong customer service and interpersonal skills in a fun, stimulating environment.

  • Ability to multi-task
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Shows initiative and creativity in solving problems
  • Proficient in Microsoft and Google documents.
  • Must have evening and weekend availability.
  • College degree or equivalent is preferred.
  • Some dance experience and knowledge of different genres of dance is required.
  • Familiarity with Joy of Motion Dance Center preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Individual must be able to assist in cleaning and maintaining studio spaces, if needed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Studio personnel work at the front desks in our dance studio locations.

Compensation: $12 per hour

Camp Manager Job Post

JOB SUMMARY: Joy of Motion Dance Center’s three studio locations host a plethora of full-day camps over the course of our ten week summer and can have up to 45 children in our location at a time. The Camp Manager provides support and assistance to camp instructors, attendees, and parents in the areas of customer relations, administrative duties, and general studio operations. As an active member of our professional studio staff, the Camp Manager is a public-facing role in which you will be responsible for creating an excellent experience for all who interact with Joy of Motion. The position will report to the Studio Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Process registration, distribution and collection of health forms, and check in of all students.
  • Serve as primary parent liaison: present at the front desk during entire camp day, answer questions, relay information b/t parents and teachers, contact parent in the event of illness, injury, etc., and send email communications to parents on costume lists, and reminders with call times for shows.
  • Assist instructors in all communication with campers and their parents.
  • Prepare handouts for campers on makeup and costume lists, and reminders from teachers.
  • Inform teachers of any relevant information i.e. injuries, health concerns, food allergies.
  • Schedule, assign, supervise, and track cleaning duties of counselors
  • Order and distribute camps snacks and fair (if provided)
  • Being present at all camp shows and tech rehearsals at Jack Guidone Theater.
  • Supervise and assist campers during camp and in the dressing room during shows.
  • Facilitate aftercare; instructing volunteers on check-in, monitors payments, collects payments, etc.
  • Assist in marketing and promotion of all camps and intensives.
  • Perform general maintenance and cleaning of all studios and office.
  • Perform general office duties.
  • Assist in maintenance of studio database.
  • Assist in studio and student correspondence, including phone, fax, mail, and email.

SEEKING HIP HOP INSTRUCTOR

  • Demonstrate appropriate methods of effective classroom management.

Youth Ballet Instructor

Dance Instructor for Ages Two through Six

Responsibilities

Dance Instruction

  • Conducts and executes classes for youth following Joy of Motion Dance Center curriculum guidelines.
  • Demonstrate creative ideas and enthusiasm for dance education.
  • Instruct dance classes in accordance to needs of the studio in terms of style, age group, and scheduling

Requirements

  • Passion for working with young children, dedicated to youth development and positive outcomes.
  • Comprehensive understanding and skills in dance education; ability to create unit and lesson plans for sessions or semesters of dance programming.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Dance Education, Education, or Childhood Development.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in early childhood care or education.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in dance instruction for ages 2 – 6.
  • Ability to manage a classroom of up to 15 children ages 2 – 6.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Availability to instruct on weekend mornings and afternoons.
  • Provide instruction at all Joy of Motion studio locations.
  • Provide instruction classes at DC partner schools in conjunction with our Neighborhood Steps Program.

Preferences

  • Master’s degree in Dance Education, Education, or Childhood Development

VOLUNTEER + INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Camp Counselors

Joy of Motion Dance Center’s three studio locations host a plethora of full-day camps over the course of our ten week summer and can have up to 45 children at a location at a time. Camp Counselors are vital to a successful summer for studio staff, faculty, and students. Joy of Motion is seeking counselor volunteers to serve as camp counselors and aftercare counselors. Applicants must be at least 16 years old.

Camp Counselors must be prepared to lead warmups for dancers, attend all classes for camp age group, learn all choreography taught to assigned group, provide assistance to all dancers in assigned group, and supervise lunch. Camp Counselors are expected to complete select cleaning duties such as sweeping before camp, cleaning up after lunch, and after camp vacuuming. Some camp counselors may be required to be present at camp showings and rehearsals.

Aftercare Counselors will sign in students that attend aftercare each day, supervise youth in a studio room as campers await pickup from their parents, and assist in clean up after all campers have left for the day.

SCHEDULE:
Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm (subject to change based on camp you are assigned)
Start date is first day of assigned camp and last day is day of show (if camp includes show).

Studio Workstudy

Joy of Motion Dance Center is currently seeking Workstudy applicants for all three studio locations. Volunteers must commit to one a 5-hour shift per week for a total of 20 hours per month, for 6 months. Successful candidates must be responsible and willing to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. We’re looking for friendly, engaging, dance enthusiast who wish to gain experience in arts administration. Basic MAC skills required, as well as the purchase a $12 Joy of Motion T-shirt. Main Office Marketing Intern (Summer + Fall)

Are you a marketing student who’s looking for real world experiences? Join our marketing team this fall and help to inspire the DMV to dance! We’re looking for highly capable and inspired undergrad or graduate students to support us Sept – Dec 2016. Some experience using Adobe Creative Suite, Mindbody, Salesforce, Hootsuite, Google Analytics and MAC programs is required. Must have own transportation and be able to work 20 hours per week (flexible schedule, Fridays required). Are you a theatre/arts student looking for real-world experiences? Work with our Production Director and learn theatre arts management from the inside out. Students should need college credit. Theater Workstudy

We are currently seeking Workstudy applications for the Jack Guidone Theater. While previous technical theater experience is preferable, it is not necessary, as training will be provided. We are looking for Sound Board Operators, Box Office Assistants, Ushers, and Run Crew. Workstudy volunteers will receive unlimited dance classes at all studio locations. Successful candidates must commit to 2 shows per month and should be available most Saturday and Sunday evenings. Perks include involvement in creative dance production, free shows, and free dance classes, all while learning vital theater production skills. Ideal candidates must be able to work unsupervised, solve problems, and excel in a collaborative team environment.
