Our performance classes are offered each semester in various dance disciplines as an opportunity for the adult
student to experience the process and thrill of performing.
Performance classes culminate in a showcase performance at

This class is an intensive led by
JOMDC Production Manager, Marisha Bourgeois. Marisha holds an M.A. in Dance and attributes the majority of her artistic influence
to her travels around the globe. Her work has been performed in numerous venues on the east and west coast as well as Germany. This class combines innovative approaches to find and refine the choreographer's vision as well as educate the student in dance
aesthetics. The curriculum will involve many "tastes" of how one creates movement, and enjoys the process from conception to performance. The goal of the student will be to create a solo, duet, or small group work under continual guidance to be performed in the Winter Performance Class Showcase.
All students are required to attend
class, be prompt and participate on a regular basis in order
to perform. Students must purchase their own costuming
according to teacher guidelines. All efforts will be made to
keep costuming expenses affordable. This class will
culminate in a showcase performance for friends, family and
the community on Saturday, March 17, at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday,
March 18, at 7:00 p.m. at our Jack Guidone Theater, admission $15.00 general admission,
$12.00 students/seniors.

Belly Dance

Level: Beginning 2 and Above
Belly Dance (Raqs Sharqi) is a dynamic and diverse art form, incorporating a
wide array of styles and movements form the folk, social, and classical
traditions of numerous Middle Eastern cultures. All students are required to attend
class, be prompt and participate on a regular basis in order
to perform. Students must purchase their own costuming
according to teacher guidelines. All efforts will be made to
keep costuming expenses affordable. This class will
culminate in a showcase performance for friends, family and
the community on Saturday, March 17, at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday,

Hip Hop Performance Class

Level: Intermediate and Above Hip Hop
Students will be performing as a part of the dance chorus in "Love_Forevermore," a hip hop dance/musical created and choreographed by
Derek Brown, February 24 and 25, 2007 at The Jack Guidone Theater.
This intermediate level hip hop performance class will challenge students to learn hip hop choreography infused with thrash jazz, modern and musical theatre styles. Students will be performing as a part of the dance chorus in "Love...Forevermore", a hip hop dance/musical created and choreographed by JOMDC Faculty member Derek Brown, presented at JOMDC’s Jack Guidone Theater. “Love… Forevermore”, is not your typical story of boy meets girl. A young man finds more than just himself in this emotionally driven story about the struggles of acceptance and
love. All students are required to
attend class, be prompt and demonstrate a command of the
choreography in order to perform. Students must purchase or
create their own costuming according to teacher guidelines.

Hip Hop Performance Class

Level: Low Intermediate and Above
Fun and flashy! While this class will allow the more experienced Hip Hop dancers to showcase style and flare, we will also use the movement to explore different stories. We will use Hip Hop movement, with some influences from other dance genres, to create a piece with theatrical elements. As always, students will be pushed to learn challenging choreography and push their showmanship and performance quality to new levels. Come expecting to expand your notion of what Hip Hop is and learn what it takes to put on a great performance..

Jazz is an exciting and dynamic dance form full of rhythm, syncopation, passion and life. This performance class will bring the energy of jazz to the stage. Steeped in the rhythm of America, jazz, a true American art form, brings energy and life to all those who dance it. Students will experience the development of a full-length jazz performance piece from start to finish focusing on classic jazz and blues as well as some elements of jazz improvisation.
All

This class will mount a contemporary work and is a wonderful opportunity for students to be a part of the creative process from the beginning. Class will include a contemporary warm-up followed by choreography from the rich repertoire of works by El Teatro de Danza Comtemporanea de El Salvador, Miya Hisaka, Artistic Director. Class and choreography will be taught by Danilo Rivera, long time company member. Works presented by El Teatro de Danza are profound, moving, and contain ethereal beauty.All students are required to
attend class, be prompt and demonstrate a command of the
choreography in order to perform. Students must purchase or
create their own costuming according to teacher guidelines.
