Adult Summer Schedule - Performance Classes

All studios will be closed Wednesday, July 4, 2007.

Please note: Classes are subject to cancellation or change of time or location based on management discretion.

Students must be 19 years and above to participate in adult performance classes.

Performance Classes
Our performance classes are offered each semester in various dance disciplines as an opportunity for the adult student to experience the process and thrill of performing.  Performance classes culminate in a showcase performance at The Jack Guidone Theater on August 18 & 19, 2007.

Level: Intermediate & Advanced Hip Hop

Jennifer Archibald is the Founder and Artistic Director of Arch Dance Company in NYC.  A hot new dancer, artist, and teacher, she holds faculty positions at Dancespace and STEPS on Broadway.  Ms. Archibald's class pushes the dancer athletically to move with and against as well as lyrically fly across space, encompassing both  the hard edge of the street and the fluidity of classical technique. Be on the cutting edge -- check it out! All students are required to attend class, be prompt and demonstrate a command of the choreography in order to perform. Students must purchase or create their own costuming according to teacher guidelines. All efforts will be made to keep costuming expenses affordable.  This class will culminate in a showcase performance for friends, family and the community on Saturday, August 18, at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, August 19, at 7:00 p.m. at JOMDC's Jack Guidone Theater., admission $15.00 general admission, $12.00 students/seniors.

Broadway Tap Performance Class 
 with Pauline Grossman

Level:  Level: Beginning 2 and Above Tap

Bring the thrill of Broadway to your feet.  This performance class provides the developing Broadway Tapper an opportunity to show their stuff.  42nd Street, Anything Goes, Crazy for You, The Producers, A chorus Line, Singin' in the Rain, and La Cage Aux Folles are just some of the shows that will inspire this "good time" performance class.  This class is an excellent opportunity to put the fun experienced in class on stage. All students are required to attend class, be prompt and participate on a regular basis in order to perform. Students must purchase their own costuming according to teacher guidelines. All efforts will be made to keep costuming expenses affordable. This class will culminate in a performance as part of Jazz Dance: An American Original on Saturday, July 28 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, July 29 at 7:00 p.m. at JOMDC’s Jack Guidone Theater.

Drum Solo Performance Class 
 with Laurel Victoria Gray

Level: Beginning 1 and Above Belly Dance 

Hot new shimmy Egyptian drum solo (with optional finger cymbals). For Raqs Sharqi dancers, the Tabla or Drum Solo is an opportunity for a display of technique and virtuosity. The moves must match constantly shifting rhythm patterns and demonstrate isolation throughout the body. This brand new choreography will challenge students and charm audiences. All students are required to attend class, be prompt and participate on a regular basis in order to perform. Students must purchase their own costuming according to teacher guidelines. All efforts will be made to keep costuming expenses affordable. Flamenco/Spanish Dance Performance Class

Level: Beginning 2 and Above Flamenco/Spanish Dance

Bring finesse and style to your flamenco. This performance class is a great opportunity to strengthen performance skills and take your technique to a higher level. Aspects of stage presence and professionalism will be covered. All students are required to attend class, be prompt and demonstrate a command of the choreography in order to perform. "Gypsy Punk" Performance Class

Crazy Summer fun with post-Soviet "Gypsy Punk" and trendy Lebanese tunes.  This Eastern dance is outside-the-box and for adventurous souls!  All students are required to attend class, be prompt and participate on a regular basis in order to perform. Hip Hop Performance Class

Level: Beginning 1 & 2 Hip Hop

This beginner level class will challenge students to learn Hip Hop choreography that is fused with Latin dance while also exploring modern and African movement. The class is designed with the beginner dancer in mind who wants a chance to perform for a live audience.  All students are required to attend class, be prompt and demonstrate a command of the choreography in order to perform. Students must purchase or create their own costuming according to teacher guidelines. Hip Hop Raqs Performance Class

Level:  Beginning 1 and Above Belly Dance (Must have had at least Belly Dance Basics)

This performance class combines the traditional movements of Middle Eastern dance with the hot sounds of hip hop music to create a unique, fun and innovative performance piece. Give your dance a new edge. Students fond of the past and but moved by the sounds of today will love this fusion class inspired by the music of artists such as Shakira and Kelis. Join the fun as we push the limits of traditional Raqs Sharqi (belly dance).  All students are required to attend class, be prompt and participate on a regular basis in order to perform. Jazz Performance Class

Level:  Beginning 2 and Above Jazz Dance

Jazz is an exciting and dynamic dance form full of rhythm, syncopation, passion and life. This performance class will bring the energy of jazz to the stage. Steeped in the rhythm of America, jazz, a true American art form, brings energy and life to all those who dance it. Students will experience the development of a full-length jazz performance piece from start to finish focusing on classic jazz and blues as well as some elements of jazz improvisation.  All students are required to attend class, be prompt and demonstrate a command of the choreography in order to perform. Students must purchase or create their own costuming according to teacher guidelines. All efforts will be made to keep costuming expenses affordable.
