Performance Dance Classes
Our performance classes are offered each semester in various dance disciplines as an opportunity for the adult
student to experience the process and thrill of performing.
These performance classes culminate in a showcase performance at
The Jack Guidone Theater on May 31 & June 1, 2008.:
Afro Modern Performance Class
with Taurus
Broadhurst
Monday, 8:30 - 10:00 p.m., Atlas
(3/24 - 5/19/08 + 5/30/08)
$180 for 10 weeks
Level: Beginning 2 and Above Modern
Registration
is now closed.
Dancers will learn choreography that is a fusion of classical
West African dance and Modern dance, with influences of hip
hop and contemporary dance. The choreography will reveal the
intersections of these dance forms, which exemplify power,
energy, rhythm and soul and how the dancer connects to the
work. All students are required to attend
class, be prompt and participate on a regular basis in order
to perform. Students must purchase their own costuming
according to teacher guidelines.
All efforts will be made to
keep costuming expenses affordable. This class will
culminate in a showcase performance for friends, family and
the community on Saturday,
May 31, at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday,
June 1, at 7:00 p.m. at JOMDC's Jack Guidone Theater.,
tickets: $15.00 general admission,

Hip Hop Performance Class

Level: Beginning 2/Low Intermediate and Above Hip Hop Registration

Fun and flashy! While this class will allow the more experienced Hip Hop dancers to showcase style and flare, we will also use the movement to explore different stories. We will use Hip Hop movement, with some influences from other dance genres, to create a piece with theatrical elements. As always, students will be pushed to learn challenging choreography and push their showmanship and performance quality to new levels. Come expecting to expand your notion of what Hip Hop is and learn what it takes to put on a great
performance. All students are required to
attend class, be prompt and demonstrate a command of the
choreography in order to perform. Students must purchase their own costuming
according to teacher guidelines. All efforts will be made to
keep costuming expenses affordable. This class will
culminate in a showcase performance for friends, family and

performance class with JOMDC's very own
Vincent Williams
. This beginners’ performance class will explore
traditional jazz choreography that emphasizes developing energy
in performance, musicality, and just plain fun! All students are required to
attend class, be prompt and demonstrate a command of the
choreography in order to perform. Students must purchase their own costuming

Tribal Belly Dance Performance Class

Dance (must have completed Beginning 1 Tribal Belly Dance)

Tribal Belly Dance is known
for its precision, improvisation and innovative voice.
Emphasizing the development of a strong overall Tribal dance
discipline, the class will focus on various tribal styles
and influences with a special emphasis on American Tribal
Style (ATS) and its roots in flamenco technique--one of its
main foundations. In this class, students will learn a
tribal fusion choreography that emphasizes strong belly
dance technique and interpretation of non-traditional
music. All students are required to
attend class, be prompt and demonstrate a command of the
choreography in order to perform. Students must purchase their own costuming
according to teacher guidelines. All efforts will be made to
keep costuming expenses affordable. This class will
culminate in a showcase performance for friends, family and
