Furia
Flamenca is a flamenco dance
company under the direction of Estela Velez which brings the ferocity
and passion of flamenco to the stage and transports audiences across the
ocean to southern Spain through technically refined, emotionally
explosive, and dynamically choreographed dancing. Furia Flamenca's
style is unique in that it combines the traditional gypsy with the more
modern flamenco to create a perfect balance making their performances
absolutely enthralling and totally entertaining.
Furia Flamenca
was founded by director Estela Velez in January 2003. In January
2005 the company became In Residence at the Joy of Motion Dance Center.
The dancers have strong backgrounds in flamenco, ballet, Middle Eastern,
modern, tap, and other dance forms. Furia Flamenca takes pride in
its versatility and professionalism. Dancers provide a sumptuous
feast for the eyes, ears, and heart with thier range of expression,
ability to entice the audience, and joy for dancing. The company
performs traditional flamenco and dances inspired by flamenco's origins.
Furia Flamenca is unique in the DC's flamenco community as it focuses on
theatre stage performances. Many of the dances are choreographed
for a group, requiring precision timing and attention to detail.
The choreographies are vibrant and intense, keeping the audience
enthralled and leaving it wanting more. Furia Flamenca has
performed in venues throughout the DC Metro area including the Jack
Guidone Theatre, the Mexcian Cultural Institute, Ernst Community
Cultural Center, and Dance Place, as well as numerous festivals and
private events. Furia Flamenca was recently featured in the FOX
Channel 5 Morning Show.
