Studio to Stage:  Performance Dance Classes 
Fall Semester:   September 2 - December 23, 2008

Please note: Classes are subject to cancellation or change of time, teacher, or location based on management discretion.
                   Unless otherwise noted, students must be 18 years and above to participate in adult classes and workshops,
                   and 19 years and above to participate in adult performance classes..
                   Adult enrollment and performance class start and end dates vary. Please check the schedule below.
                   Students must be 19 years and over to participate in adult performance classes.

These performance classes culminate in a showcase performance at The Jack Guidone Theater on December 13 & 14, 2008 

• Bollywood Performance Class with Laurel Victoria Gray     Registration is now closed.

• Flamenco/Spanish Dance Performance Class with Estela Velez   Registration is now closed.

• Hip Hop Pop 80's Performance Class with Esperonto Bean     Registration is now closed.

• Hula Performance Class with Kaimana Chee  Registration is now closed.

• Rhythm Tap Performance Class with Heidi Schultz  Registration is now closed.

Note for all Studio to Stage Performance Classes:  
All students are required to attend every class, be prompt and participate on a regular basis in order to perform. Students must purchase their own costuming according to teacher guidelines.  All efforts will be made to keep costuming expenses affordable. These classes will culminate in a showcase performance for friends, family and the community on Saturday, December 13, at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, December 14, at 7:00 p.m. at JOMDC's Jack Guidone Theater, tickets: $15.00 general admission, $12.00 students/seniors.

Anniversary Concert Performance Dance Classes
Our Anniversary Concert performance classes are offered this Fall as an opportunity for the adult student to experience the process and thrill of performing in JOMDC's annual anniversary celebration.  These classes will perform in the same Anniversary Concert as JOMDC's professional Resident Arts Partners, and guest artists.  A rare opportunity for adult students to perform in the same concert with the pros!

These performance classes culminate in a showcase performance at JOMDC's Anniversary Concert on October 18, 2008, at the Atlas Performing Arts Center:

• Jazz Anniversary Concert Performance Dance Class with Douglas Yeuell  Registration is now closed.
• Hip Hop Anniversary Concert Performance Dance Class with Aysha Upchurch        Registration is now closed.

Note for all Anniversary Concert Performance Classes:  
All students are required to attend every class, be prompt and participate on a regular basis in order to perform. Students must purchase their own costuming according to teacher guidelines.  All efforts will be made to keep costuming expenses affordable. These classes will culminate in JOMDC's Anniversary Concert for friends, family, supporters, patrons, and the community on Saturday, October 18, 2008, at 8:00 p.m. at The Atlas Performing Arts Center, tickets: $20.00 and $25.00 general admission.

Level: Low Intermediate and Above Flamenco/Spanish Dance  Registration is now closed.

Bring finesse and style to your flamenco. This performance class is a great opportunity to strengthen performance skills and take your technique to a higher level. Aspects of stage presence and professionalism will be covered. All students are required to attend class, be prompt and demonstrate a command of the choreography in order to perform. Students must purchase or create their own costuming according to teacher guidelines.

Hip Hop Pop 80's Performance Class 
with Esperonto Bean

Level:  Advanced Beginning and above Hip Hop    Registration is now closed.

The total flashback dance class! This class is dedicated to the top 80's pop and hip-hop dance hits! Dancers will perform dance styles such as popping, locking, punking, basic breaking and hip-hop moves both past and present.  Come groove to your favorite artists Madonna, Queen, Run DMC, Kurtis Blow and many more.

Hula Performance Class
with Kaimana Chee

Level:  Beginning  and above Hula    Registration is now closed.

Hula is the visual language of the Hawaiian people and culture.  It is encompassed by centuries of tradition linked to the Polynesian immigrants who settled in Hawai'i centuries ago.  Hula is vital to the perpetuation and preservation of the Hawaiian culture, its people, and traditions.  Through this Hula performance class you will learn to distinguish between the two main styles of Hula:  Kahiko (Ancient) and 'Auana (Modern).  You will also learn to perform and identify basic Hula foot and hand movements.  Students will learn one Kahiko and 'Auana piece and have the opportunity to perform the dances.  They will also learn an 'oli, a traditional Hawaiian chant that precedes each Kahiko performance.

Tired of trying to show your friends and family what you've been earning in class in your socks or on carpet or in the laundry room?  The stage is open to all tap students who want to bang their feet in style  --  experience the lights and costumes!  We'll spend the fall semester learning a funky rhythm tap piece that showcases your hoofing skills and bright personalities.  Bring on the noise, 'cuz we got the funk!

Jazz is an exciting and dynamic dance form full of rhythm, syncopation, passion, and life.  This performance class will bring the energy of jazz to the stage.  Steeped in the rhythm of America, jazz a true American art form, brings energy and life to all those who dance it.  Students will experience the development of a full-length jazz performance piece from start to finish, focyusing on classical jazz and blues as well as some elements of jazz improvisation.
