Our performance classes are offered each semester in various dance disciplines as an opportunity for the adult
student to experience the process and thrill of performing.
Performance classes culminate in a showcase performance at

This Choreography & Composition class is an intensive choreography workshop led
by renowned dance artist Karen Reedy. Ms. Reedy returns to the JOMDC faculty
from New York City where she performed with the Mark Morris Dance Group and
taught at the Mark Morris Dance Center. In addition, she has assisted
choreographers such as Robert Battle of Battleworks and Nacho Duato at the
Julliard School. This class combines practical exercises, improvisational
tasks, and compositional “homework” that will be assigned on a weekly basis.
Students will be challenged with the goal of creating a solo work for
themselves and performing before a live audience. This class will culminate in a showcase performance for friends, family and the community on Saturday,
December 16, at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, December 17, at 7:00 p.m. at our Jack Guidone Theater,
admission $15.00 general

Contemporary/Modern Dance
Performance Class

Level: Intermediate modern or above
This class will mount a contemporary work and is a wonderful opportunity for
students to be a part of the creative process from the beginning.
Class will include a contemporary warm-up followed by choreography from the
rich repertoire of works by El Teatro de Danza Comtemporanea de El
Salvador, Miya Hisaka, Artistic Director. Class and choreography will
be taught by Danilo Rivera, long time company member. Works presented by El
Teatro de Danza are profound, moving, and contain ethereal beauty.
All students are required to attend
class, be prompt and participate on a regular basis in order
to perform. Students must purchase their own costuming
according to teacher guidelines. All efforts will be made to
keep costuming expenses affordable. This class will
culminate in a showcase performance for friends, family and
the community on Saturday,
December 16, at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, December 17, at 7:00 p.m. at our Jack Guidone Theater,

"True School" Hip Hop Performance Class

Level: Beginning 1 & 2
This "True
School" Hip Hop Performance Class based on the original
hip hop styles, such as Popping and Locking, blended with
hip hop choreography of today. Geared for the beginning hip
hip dancer, this performance class will give you a
comprehensive foundation in the genre of hip hop.
Continuation of drop-in classes at the appropriate skill
level highly recommended. All students are required to
attend class, be prompt and demonstrate a command of the
choreography in order to perform. Students must purchase or
create their own costuming according to teacher guidelines.
All efforts will be made to keep costuming expenses
affordable. This class will culminate in a showcase
performance for friends, family and the community on

"New School" Hip Hop Performance Class

Level: Low Intermediate and above
Contemporary or "new school"
hip-hop dance combines music, personality and style with a
diverse and often complex range of movement. Embracing
social, funk, and dance styles such as popping and bboy/bgirling,
hip-hop also draws indirect influences from African, jazz
and modern. Through this performance class, students can
expect to broaden their understanding of movement, by
exploring both the old and new in dance choreography.
Various elements including hitting, grooving, isolation, and
release, as well as performance concepts such as breathing,
facials and stage presence will be explored. Dancers will be
encouraged to challenge themselves weekly while
strengthening their overall vocabulary and foundation. All
students are required to attend class, be prompt and
demonstrate a command of the choreography in order to
perform. Students must purchase or create their own
costuming according to teacher guidelines. All efforts will

This performance class combines the
traditional movements of Middle Eastern dance with
the hot sounds of hip hop music to create a unique, fun and innovative
performance piece. Give your dance a new edge. Students fond of the past
and but moved by the sounds of today will love this fusion class
inspired by the music of artists such as Shakira and Kelis. Join the fun
as we push the limits of traditional Raqs Sharqi (belly dance).

Rhythm Tap Performance

Level: Beginning 2 Rhythm Tap and above
Tired of trying to
show your friends and family what you've been learning in
class in your socks or on carpet or in the laundry room? The
stage is open to all tap dancers who want to bang their feet
in style--a wood floor, lights, and costumes! We'll spend
the fall semester learning a funky rhythm tap piece that
showcases your hoofing skills and bright personalities.
Previous performance experience is not necessary, but
students should have completed at least one semester of
beginning 2 rhythm tap (no high-heeled tap shoes, please).
Bring on the noise, 'cuz we got the funk! All
students are required to attend class, be prompt and
demonstrate a command of the choreography in order to
perform. Students must purchase or create their own
costuming according to teacher guidelines. All efforts will

Tribal Belly Dance Performance Class

Level: Beginning 2 Tribal Belly Dance and
above
Using aspects of all Tribal
Belly Dance approaches and with a special
emphasis on American Tribal Style (ATS) with its Flamenco
and Classical Indian Dance influences, this unique and
challenging performance class will provide students with a
chance to further their Tribal technique, musical
interpretation and begin developing their performance
skills. All students are required to attend class, be prompt
and demonstrate a command of the choreography and/ Tribal
movement vocabulary in order to perform.

Improvography process
utilizes structured choreography mixed along
with improvisation to create unique individually
inspired dance /theatre tapestries.
Open to advanced
beginner through advanced students of all ages experienced
in a variety of dance styles and techniques.
