DanceFusion Jazz Project
(Grades 9-12)
Director - Vanessa Carmichael Elder
Rehearsals:  Fridays, 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. @ Friendship Heights

The DanceFusion Jazz Project is Joy of Motion Dance Center's teen jazz company. Placement is by audition only. The company explores many jazz styles such as Blues, Classical Jazz, Modern Jazz and Broadway Jazz.  Students gain performance skills and have an active schedule performing for the community at nursing homes and youth centers as well as festivals and special events.  Students must also register in two additional technique classes at JOMDC.  Please note, rehearsal times and requirements may change.

Urban Impact
(Grades 9-12)
Director - Nikki Gambhir
Rehearsals:  Sundays, 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. @ Friendship Heights

Urban Impact is Joy of Motion Dance Center’s teen hip hop company.  Placement is by audition only.  By taking dance styles of the street and fusing them with elements of modern, jazz and African,  Urban Impact explores hip hop dance in a fun and creative way.  Urban Impact excites through its unique approach to movement, music and rhythm.  It's repertory presents works of explosive energy as well as thoughtful contemplation that connects to audiences of all ages.  Themes of empowerment, individuality, and responsibility are signatures of their work.  Please note, rehearsal times and requirements may change.  Students must also register in at least two additional JOMDC hip hop classes.

Raqs Jameel

Joy of Motion's teen belly dance company is dedicated to artistic excellence in the presentation of Middle Eastern dance.  Placement is by audition only.  Company members will develop performance skills needed to achieve artistic excellence.  The company seeks to provide an enhanced understanding of Middle Eastern culture.  Students must also register in two additional technique classes at JOMDC.  Please note, rehearsal times and requirements may change.

Soles of Steel 
(Grades 6-12) 
Director - Vikki Weinberger
Rehearsals:  Mondays, 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.@ Friendship Heights

Soles of Steel is Joy of Motion Dance Center's youth tap company. Placement is by audition only. This company focuses on performance pieces that explore improvisation, intricate footwork and rhythmic patterning. Company members work toward enhancing tap technique and vocabulary while performing in various venues as a community outreach company. Soles of Steel strives to take tap as a fun, entertaining, historical and therapeutic dance form into community nursing homes, hospitals, inner-city schools and other areas of need.  Students must also register in two additional technique classes at JOMDC.  Please note, rehearsal times and requirements may change.

(Grades 6-8)

Jazz Factor is Joy of Motion Dance Center's jazz company for grades 6th-8th. Placement is by audition only. Groove Elements 
(Grades 6-8)

Groove Elements is a Joy of Motion Dance Center youth hip hop company. Placement is by audition only.  This company focuses on creating high-energy performance pieces in the hip hop genre with influences from breaking, popping, locking and video choreography. RhythmiX
(Grades 4-8)

Rehearsals:  Fridays, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. @ Atlas

RhythmiX is a Joy of Motion Dance Center youth hip hop company. Placement is by audition only.  This company focuses on creating performance pieces based on the original hip hop styles, such as popping and locking, blended with hip hop choreography of today. Students must also register in one additional hip hop class at JOMDC.  Please note, rehearsal times and requirements may change.
